The Narva-Jõesuu City Government has received the decision to approve the application for the project “Development of the waterway network and tourism business in the Ida-Viru region”.
On 26.01.2024, the State Support Services Centre of Estonia submitted Decision No 11.2-49/24/59 on the approval of the application “Development of the waterway network and tourism business in the Ida-Viru region”.
The Ida-Viru Region Waterway Network and Business Development project aims to improve the region’s waterway connections between the North Coast and the Peipsi and to develop a network of businesses around them. In addition, business support services will be reorganised to support entrepreneurs and increase the attractiveness of the region. The Narva-Jõesuu jetty will be the connecting link in the project and will be renovated, providing a better connection to the Narva River and creating additional facilities for services at the jetty.
To achieve the project’s objective, a comprehensive waterway development concept will be prepared, business networks will be developed to exploit the potential of waterways and the physical environment will be developed to facilitate the provision of new services. In addition, an innovative virtual reality solution will be created and tourism packages will be developed to present the region in a holistic way, focusing on the importance of waterways.
As a result of the project, the waterways in the area have been comprehensively developed, including a conceptual design, and an important link between the Narva River and the northern coast has been renovated in the form of a pier. Through these activities, the physical environment of the water business and the surrounding businesses has been improved. In order to realise the potential of the improved physical business environment, the development of waterway-related businesses, including the development of support services and training of local authority specialists, will result in a stronger competence in the region to maintain and further develop the business network post-project.
The project partners are Narva-Jõesuu Port Foundation (lead partner), Narva-Jõesuu City Government, Alutaguse Municipality Government, Toila Municipality Government.
The total cost of the project is EUR 8 949 134,00, of which the eligible cost is EUR 3 949 133,49. The maximum amount of the grant is EUR 2 961 850,11 and the minimum amount of co-financing is EUR 987 283,38.
The project is supported by the European Union Cohesion and Internal Market policy funds through the measure “Attractive regional business and living environment”.
The eligibility period of the project is 01.01.2024 – 28.02.2027.
