The PRIA decided to support the Narva-Jõesuu city government’s application for the development of the Narva-Jõesuu fishing harbour (Kalda tn 36 Narva-Jõesuu city) in phase II with EUR 400 000 from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund through the NGO Virumaa Rannakalurite Ühing. Phase II foresees the acquisition and installation of four container heaters, the construction of a car park with lighting and a perimeter fence, the construction of a water pipeline from the connection point to the heaters and the installation of a sewage tanker, the construction of access roads, as well as the installation of low-voltage and outdoor lighting underground cables, the acquisition and installation of a slipway floating quay. Phase I, implemented in 2022, included dredging the canal, the construction of two slipways and an access road.
Most of the professional fishermen in Narva-Jõesuu keep their equipment in the Narva-Jõesuu Fishing Harbour (formerly the “Oktoober” fishermen’s cooperative), which is located on private property. The buildings of this private estate will be demolished in the near future, according to the detailed plan. The construction of the Greater Loots Cultural Quarter will be started on this site with the help of the Fair Transition Fund and is due to be completed in 2026. Consequently, it will be necessary to relocate the fishermen of Narva-Jõesuu to the Narva-Jõesuu Fishing Harbour, owned by the City of Narva-Jõesuu, located at Kalda tn 32a, and to build the necessary supporting infrastructure. A public tender is currently being prepared, and construction is scheduled to start this summer.
