Maritime safety and competent recreational boat drivers are the cornerstone of any functioning waterway region. Therefore, we are pleased to share information about the recreational boat driver course organised by our partner Toila Voluntary Rescue Service, which will take place in Toila harbour in early spring 2026.
The training gives the opportunity to obtain a recreational boat driver’s certificate, which allows you to drive a recreational boat up to 24 metres in length, and also to provide a sailing service if needed . There is no geographical limit to the number of licences – with the right preparation, equipment and skills, you can sail wherever the sea or river takes you.
What does the training include?
The course consists of both theory and practical training:
-
Theory Lectures in February
-
practical tasks and navigation exercises
-
practical training in sailing yachting and RIB-type catamaran (April-May).
-
exam at the end of the training
The training will be conducted by Veiko Simm and members of the Toila Volunteer Rescue Team – experienced maritime people who will share their knowledge in a clear and practical way.
Training price and registration
The cost of the training is €430 ( including VAT and all practicals).
Only the Transport Administration fee for applying for a recreational craft licence is added.
It is also possible to pay in two instalments:
-
before the start of the course,
-
before the practical part starts.

Why is it also important for the Port of Narva-Jõesuu?
The skills of small boat drivers and maritime safety are directly linked to the project
“Development of the waterway network and tourism business in the Ida-Viru region”, which aims to strengthen maritime competence in the region, create a safe waterway network and support cooperation between local ports.
Such training will help to develop skills that will support the development of maritime tourism in Ida-Viru County as a whole – for recreational boaters, boat owners and future service providers.
