Narva-Jõesuu lighthouse as a new landmark

In the framework of the project “Preparation of a feasibility feasibility study
for the opening of the Narva-Jõesuu lighthouse
to visitors”, an
analysis was prepared, which evaluates the possibilities of developing the lighthouse
as a tourist attraction together with other attractions of the resort town of Narva-Jõesuu.
The analysis considered different
development scenarios – from
minimal changes
to the creation of a full-scale tourist attraction. The most sustainable
option was considered to be the creation of a lighthouse fortress as a complex,
combining a lighthouse, a museum
and a range of ancillary services.
Such a development would most enrich the visitor experience and make the site attractive
outside the peak summer season.
To ensure the success of the project,
funding opportunities were analysed in depth. The main sources of income would be ticket sales,
guiding services, souvenirs and
catering services.
Initially, there is no escape from the city and
public sector, including the European Union, subsidies. However, the successful
implementation of the project will be ensured by the establishment of partnerships with local
businesses and tourism organisations and by strategic planning of activities throughout the
development process. The analysis carried out will help to identify opportunities for funding and implementing the
ideas put forward in the project.
The lighthouse was first opened to visitors in the summer of 2024. During the 20
days of
the lighthouse was visited by nearly 3,000 people, which
shows that interest in
the lighthouse is high. The lighthouse and its built environment certainly need to be renovated.
International
practice also shows that lighthouses with well-developed
services are popular tourist attractions, especially
when they offer interactive exhibits, programmes, entertainment and a variety of activities.
